before Portuguese sails
brushed the shore,
A fleeting stay in times of yore.

The Dutch,
claimed their right,
Tended the land with earnest might..
Colonial rule soon changed its face,
As French dominion found its way.

Their marks imprinted,
Their culture and tongues firmly rooted..
Yet face, in twists, had more in store,
For British rule swept to the shore.

Through sugar cane fields
and trade's array,
Mauritius blossomed, day by day.
The riches speak for itself,
soon brought in labor through rumors..
A fusion blend,
Cultures, faiths, together they mend.

Unity through diversity..
A force none could commend.
For a new day arose,
Independence dawned.
A nation born,
proud and free..
Through time trials,
resilience stood,
A testament to brotherhood.

Mauritius, a story told,
In nature's beauty,
rich and bold..
History's canvas
painted as,
A cherished gem in ocean's blue.
